SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM:

School Counselors help students in grades K-12 become academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually grounded to be productive citizens at home, school, and eventually the workplace.

As a K-12 school counselor, I am deeply committed to help students grow academically, socially, and spiritually through a well-rounded, data driven, school counseling program. This will be achieved through a systemic approach concentrating on academic, career, and personal achievement while working with all stakeholders (students, parents, administration, teachers, support staff, and community leaders) to meet desired goals.

Like butterflies experiencing metamorphosis, students grow and develop at different stages.  I am here to aid in the transition process.  Through triumphs and difficulties my goal is to make sure all students develop to their fullest potential. Through classroom guidance lessons, group counseling, and individual counseling, critical thinking skills, good character, and accountability will be enhanced.  Each student will be equipped with the tools to excel in personal relationships, jobs, and the community.   For some this transitioning process of life is fairly easy, for others, a listening ear or helping hand may be needed along the way.

Academics:  Students must be encouraged to do their best and strive for improvement each day.  Research has shown that students who have parents involved with their school and assignments do better overall than those with parents not involved.  Make sure a routine is set at home for homework and studying - parental help in staying organized will be a tremendous asset.  Students and parents should double check grades either through weekly folders or via an online grade book (depending on grade level), so there are no surprises with nine week grade reports.  School personnel will work together to help develop an intervention plan when the need arises.  Group counseling is available for issues affecting several students in the same grade level,

Career:  All students are encouraged to be career ready through classroom guidance lessons, class visitors during career days, job shadowing, and career projects.  Students may learn more about their career profile at www.onetonline.org. (click this link), which has a personal interest quiz, information regarding the sixteen career clusters, and the future availability of jobs in each cluster.  All students in grades 3-12 are encouraged to visit the site several times and broaden their horizons and knowledge base regarding careers, skills for these careers, salaries in these jobs by state, required education, and more.  All students must decide which of the BIG 5 Career Choices are right for them - college, technical or trade school, military, apprenticeship, or employment with little additional education or training.  Career Portfolios will be developed during classroom counseling for selected grade levels.  Another site that is very user friendly and allows participants to listen to interviews of those in different career paths is www.uwannadu.com.   Being career ready helps students become more focused in their school work and create both short and long term goals.

Testimonial:

"Mrs. Bobbie Morris is a great mentor.  Over the years, she inspired me to have a passion for writing. This passion propelled me into a career in journalism and communication studies.   Having her as a teacher, mentor, and friend has been very beneficial to my college success thus far. I am very honored to know such a hardworking, dedicated woman."

Personal/Social:  Through classroom guidance lessons, group counseling, and individual counseling, students are encouraged to grow in character.  The goal is to produce a student body that is an asset to their families, co-workers, and community.  Through the development of nurturing, accountability, responsibility, empathy, and resiliency, all students will be equipped to live productive and fulfilling lives.  Discernment will be addressed as each student makes personal choices toward spirituality and worldview.   All of these concepts are reinforced during academic classes, in chapel, and during Bible class.
